As I'm writing this post, we are in full stride with Dahlia season. However, note the few tips below can really be applied throughout your growing season!
In Spring, we're "ooing and awwwwing" over tulips, ranunculus, and peonies. By summer, we've been spoiled by garden roses and roselilies. By mid-summer, dahlias are boasting in color and form. As we roll into Fall, the heirloom mums take "Best In Show!"
So let’s be honest here --Hand a bucket of any of these beauties over to anyone and they are sure to please. But let’s talk about a few tips that can make your bucket of blooms into stunning arrangements and bouquets!!
Tip #1 Find your groove in the color wheel!
When it comes to color selection, pick colors from the same family or try to work within an area of the color wheel. Follow by adding a splash of color that is not necessarily opposite of the color wheel, but a couple doors over --just enough to give some contrast.
Tip #2 Mix up your shapes
Create interest by mixing different shapes and sizes of blooms. Eg. mix up your different shaped dahlias along with sub focals such as zinnias and cosmos!
Tip #3 Add filler and botanicals of interest
